The 2006 Classic tournament featured some of the nation's premier NCAA basketball programs, including Maryland, Notre Dame, George Washington, Virginia Tech, George Mason, and Bucknell. NCAA basketball tickets to the BB&T Classic have been selling annually since 1995. The idea for the tournament can be awarded to DC newspaper journalist John Feinstein. Originally known as the Franklin Bank Classic, the tournament has consistently brought in top NCAA hoops teams from the Eastern USA to play in Verizon Arena. This year's tournament will send proceeds to benefit the Children's Charities Foundation.
