Max Abramovitz, the famed large venue architect, designed the structure that would, at first, be known as the Philharmonic Hall. This building was meant to replace Carnegie Hall as the home of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The venue was later renamed the Avery Fisher Hall, after a member of the Philharmonic Board of Directors made a charitable contribution for the venues upkeep and renovations in 1973. The Avery Fisher Hall seating chart is available to view. It can seat approximately 2,738 people.
